With remixes from Glenn Morrison, Cass, Jag Limbo and an ambient mix, Snowfield, by Snubbelrisk, gets the remix treatment and being on Hooj, its suitably expansive and immersive. Sort of.
As part of an ever-expanding dance music dynasty, Hooj Choons were the pinnacle of "half-decent house". In fact, the output on Hooj is more than half-decent. JX, Diss-Cuss, Lustral and others graced this hallowed label and now, in 2023, the label continues its resurgence with the remix package of Snowfield.
The remixes are fairly big. My fave is the Cass remix which expands beyond the confines of its surroundings and immerses the listener in a pool of progressive goodness. With further treatments by Glenn Morrison, once on his own and with Jag Limbo, and Edge Master X providing a techy rub, Snowfield adds a bumping package to its arsenal and perfectly opitimises the Hooj Choons regime.
The original of this is on Trance Trax 2, also released by Hooj, in the Spring. As a consequence, it isn't on this but, by way of compensation, Snubbelrisk provides an ambient mix that takes the original and turns it into a beatless odyssey.
Each mix has its own merits but its the Cass mix that ticks my boxes. Maybe its not trance, which is what I normally review, but its suitably proggy and widescreen and immersive. Yes, you need it and yes, the ambient mix is cool as fuck and yes, Hooj is now firmly back in the limelight. The stick man returns!
