Following hot on the heels of the excellent "Warsaw", Cattaneo and Tonks return to Renaissance with their latest release and their midas touch is again clearly in evidence.
The original mix of Sirocco is a driving slab of melodic prog and is an excellent representation of Cattaneo's DJing sound. Soaring pads reminiscent of Sasha's track "Cuckoo North" and bright intricate fx are driven along by a simple but effective bassline and prominent conga percussive pattern.
The Nodding Dog mix ups the pace further with a running bassline and synth combination with cool electro stabs punctuating the rolling rhythm. The breakdown heralds a techy riff that really kicks the whole mix up another gear bringing it to a screaming finale. Of the two mixes available this would be my choice for the way it continues to surprise you but both mixes work extremely well in the club.
A track that is truly more than the sum of its parts, Sircocco was released on 27 May.
