Static Movement has had music running through his veins since he was born! With an impressive discography and the release of his sixth album - 'Underwater' on Iono-Music, we wanted to delve deeper and find out more about this creative genius.

Where and how did your musical journey begin?

My journey into the world of music began when I was a child in Ukraine. My mother always played the piano at home, classical music, and she was a music teacher. She tried to teach me to play, but in the end, I taught myself to play by ear.

At the age of 12, when I was already living in Israel, I was exposed to trance music and the Impulse Tracker creation software through friends. It wasn't long before I started creating my own tracks, through a system of trial and error. I could sit on it for hours! I would enjoy creating and playing complex melodies, because I already had the connection to classical music. Over time everything just developed further.

How do you feel that your childhood shaped the person you are today?

My childhood wasn't easy, moving from one country to another, dealing with a new reality. At home, it wasn't easy - there were always difficulties and I had to prove myself and pass tests. I was always looking for a way out of the pressure and searching for a way to deal with it all - music became a kind of way to escape reality and head deep into my private world.

What was the first record you bought?

I remember it was an album by Infected Mushroom (Eyal Barkan) - 'The Gathering'.

When did you decide that you wanted to create music yourself?

The first track I made was in 1996. It’s called ‘The Graveyard’ and the truth is, I still have it today. I think it's funny that as a kid I called the track this, because the meaning is now clear - that's where we end our lives. For me, that's where the musical journey began.

What is your process of creating a track?

The process has changed a lot over the years and also improved. Basically, for me it's like painting a picture, according to my feelings at that moment. Today I create sounds or melodies or chords, play something even simple, and then create something that connects to it. I create a lot of content of sounds that fit together wherever I put them; with many different layers and different colours that contrast each other, arranging, rearranging it and improving it, preparing a structure, mixing, streaming, and all the time while working improving and improving until I reach the perfect result.

What is your studio set up?

My studio is pretty basic overall, in the way I work - an I-7 computer, passive Dynaudio monitors that I've had for almost 20 years and never replaced them in my life, Cubase 11, a control keyboard and that's it, everything is done on the computer and plugins.

What was the last music you listened to that wasn't psy-trance?

The truth is, that’s a tough question… I have a friend named Leon Galperin, the director of a recording studio in central Israel, who is the only one who sends me non-electronic content. Acoustic music, estas tonne, the music that is not from the electronic genres. Today, I am mostly only exposed if someone plays it to me. I admit that I don't listen to any music that isn't psychedelic trance.

What is your greatest achievement in life?

Playing on the biggest stages in the world thanks to music. Fulfilling my dreams and being able to connect people with music.

What's been a disappointment in your life?

Many times I ruined opportunities for myself, but now I realise that this is how it had to happen. I accept my disappointments with love. They shaped me to be more independent and self-reliant.

What/who are your greatest inspirations?

Infected mushroom, X-Dream, Cop, Simon Posford, Azax, Psychotic Micro, Bliss, Ace Ventura, Captain Hook, Liquid Soul, Morten Granau, Phaxe, Neelix, Ranji and Ghost Rider.

Do you ever suffer from writer's block?

Yes, unfortunately it's happened a few times. I try not to focus on it, and get back to myself. I'm usually very creative.

Do you have any "guilty pleasures" or bad habits?

I don't think anyone is perfect or without bad habits. I accept my shortcomings with love and am aware of them. I try to manage my life through the most positive side as often as possible.

You have a new album just out on Iono-Music called 'Underwater'. How is working with this legendary label?

Iono-Music is the label that opened the door to the world for me. Matthias has been the manager of the label for a long time and is like family to me. I'm always happy to release my music on a label that is considered one of the biggest and most respected in the world.

Tell us about the album

This album is a new concept of music that tells a story, hypnotic, this time deep underwater, both rhythmic and relaxing. It touches on several music styles at the same time, progressive trance, techno, melodic, trance, and also touches of house, and electro. After a long period of wars and crazy reality, I was looking for something that would give me peace and help me to disconnect from reality to another world.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

That there will be no wars in the world, that there will be peace, that our trance culture will grow, and I hope this will be the example of how we can live and dance together everywhere. Trance is our connection to the universe!

If someone were to write a book about your life so far, what would it be called?

'In His Unique Way'.
