The Tidy Girls Go Back To Back

Reported by Sam Townend / Submitted 21-10-08 16:09

With a string of hits to their name and the ability to devastate not just hard dance but house and old skoool dance floors, Anne Savage and Amber D are doing much more than most to keep Britain Tidy. With the new EP from four of the biggest and most popular female DJs on the planet - the Tidy Girls - due for imminent release through the worlds number one Hard Dance label Tidy, Sam Townend got these two fine DJs to interview each other to get the full insight into what the girls have been up to and get the inside gossip on what’s going on in the world of the Tidy Girls….

Anne Savage interviews Amber D:

I felt under pressure to do something really special for the Tidy Girls EP after the success of the first one, how did you approach it and are you happy with the final result? What can people expect?

I also felt under pressure to make something extra special for this Tidy Girls EP, as I remember the tracks from the first EP and how good they were! I am definitely happy with the final result and I hope the fans and DJ’s will think my track worthy of a space on this EP.

What special ingredients does a track have to have to make into one of your sets?

It needs to grab my attention! If it doesn’t, then its not going in. Also if I am slightly unsure about a track I don’t usually chance it (when in doubt, leave it out!). All the tracks that I play at the moment are energetic, I’m definitely into the off beat bassline also and big riffs and vocals are a MUST!

You’ve had a pretty spectacular summer, would you share some of the highlights?

I think one of my favorite memories of this Summer (apart from my wedding!) would be playing at Creamfields and also at Global Gathering. I have played at both of these for the past five years and I enjoy them both even more each year. We even got decent weather for them this year too! Bonus!

What does it take to be a Tidy Girl?

You have to be talented, dedicated, determined and you have to believe in yourself. Most of all you need to be able to have a laugh and a joke with the other girls, we are like one big happy family!

Your house is on fire, what three things do you save as you run to safety?

My framed photo of me with the whole cast of “Different Strokes”, My life-size cardboard cut-out of Dale Winton, and my favorite red biro.

You’re in a restaurant, Lee has lamb, what do you order?
I would order lamb as now I am married I have to do whatever Lee tells me!

Amber D Interviews Anne Savage:

What was your inspiration behind your track on the Tidy Girls EP?

I wanted to do something really special for the new Tidy Girls EP so I moved away from hard dance and listened to some different genres. I love and have been playing a lot of Herve’s stuff in my Dumb Blonde sets and tried to take the essence of that kind of sound and make it work in a hard dance track. When I finished it I was a bit nervous about it because it isn’t really formula hard dance but The Tidy Boys love it and people have been asking about it so I guess it pays to stick your neck out sometimes.

I had great fun doing the photo shoot with you and the other girls and our mini shopping trip after! Did you have fun?

Yes it was nice to hang out with you and the other girls after the shoot, we should go shopping together more often, what a hoot!

Anymore tracks in the pipeline for release soon?

I’ve got a few lined up actually! The Pod is being re-released on Traffic at the end of October, with a new mix from Scott Attrill which I love. Lisa Lashes and I have a double release finally coming out on her Lashed Digital label which is Olivia and Become 1, probably November time. I’ve just started a new track with Technikal which I am stoked about too, it’s really different, but banging, it’s for his collaboration album which will be out soon, so he says! www.djannesavageworld.com is the place to go for all that info.

Who are your main musical influences?

Ok, very briefly, I love all kinds of music and always have had a healthy, broad minded attitude to music, probably because I grew up listening to whatever my older brothers and sisters were listening to i.e. disco, punk, soul, early electronica like New Order and Front 242. I got into house music and started DJing in the early nineties and my heroes were Sasha and Carl Cox. I worked in Eastern Bloc records in the mid 90’s as the hard dance buyer but was exposed to every kind of house music and learned so much about what else was out there esp. the stuff on Axis and Red Planet, oh, and any thing on Pulse 8. Nowadays I listen to a lot of bands MGMT, Pendulum, Vampire Weekend, Glasvegas and it does all filter down somehow into ideas for tracks in the studio.

What do you want for Christmas?

When I was 15 years old I had just my right ear pierced, I though it was cool to have 3 earrings in one ear and none in the other. It has taken me until 2 weeks ago to get the other ear done so to celebrate I’d like a pair of (diamond?) earrings please.

This two-part release will be included as part of the new and highly successful Tidy Music Library project and features two of the original Tidy Girls Anne Savage and Lisa Pin Up, and sees the label’s latest high-flying female talent, Amber D and Kym Ayres get in on the action.

Part 01 Feat Anne Savage & Amber D - OUT NOW
Part 02 Feat Lisa Pin Up & Kym Ayres - Released November 03rd through all good record stores.
