The Logic-al way to get Rich
Reported by Maxine

Who could have known 8 years ago that an event that started out as a party for friends could turn into one of the best hard dance events in London. With its own unique blend of DJs, productions and dancers, Logic has gained a reputation and a loyal following of clubbers.
The 28th July 2007 sees Marcus Rich celebrating with Logic at the 8th Birthday. Not to be labelled as shy, Marcus Rich has will been slowly gaining himself a reputation (or 2) through various events across London, such as Techstyle and Puzzle Project. Although he got into DJing quite late no one can say that this has held him back. Playing an array of sounds ranging from breaks to psy-trance Marcus has plenty of surprises awaiting for us on the 28th. I dared to find out more!
Hi Marcus, how are you and what have you been doing with yourself?
I’m very well thank you. Francoise (La Twinkle) and I have been settling into and enjoying our new garden flat in Camden. We’ve just adopted two Siberian kittens to liven the place up a bit, which they most certainly do. I’ve been working on a new UV artwork technique, which will produce 3D & Animated Ultra Violet Holograms. I’ve also just purchased a brand new PC, specifically for music and art projects, so expect to see & hear something soon (I must thank Dean Peters & kr00t0n for helping to get me set up).
So tell me how and why did you get into DJing?
My now ex-wife had a pair of 1210’s, from a previous relationship and a fantastic collection of psy trance, tech trance, hard house and other musical gems (I wish I could get my hands on it). I had wanted to try DJing for a while so I put the equipment together and gave it a whirl. I had no one to show me the ropes so had to learn the hard way, it wasn’t until a friend gave me a few tips that I began to improve and gain enough confidence to play out. DJing has now become another creative outlet for me and although I don’t push myself to play out, I love playing at home, with friends or at house parties. If Logic brings me more opportunities to play out, I will of course jump at the chance. There is nothing like playing to a crowd in a packed club, especially for such a legendary promotion.
What styles do you play?
I play most everything except for trance! As long as the tune is funky and has a good groove to it, I’ll play it. I have all sorts, from rare groove to house, breaks to DnB, minimal techno to full on acid and everything else in between. I started off playing hard house but lost interest after the genre lost its ‘house’ roots and became boring and monotonous. I’ve also just started playing tribal house, it’s like sooooo groovy MAN!
What attracted you to play it?
I found techno and breaks much more exciting, the genres (sub genres) gave me a lot more freedom to be creative and more individual as a DJ. When I play out, I want to sound completely different to anyone else.
Where did you play your first ever set, and what was it like?
My first proper set was for Hammered, at Crash, about 4 years ago. I went back to back with a good friend of mine and was absolutely cacking myself. I drank half a bottle of JD, before we left, and a couple of beers, in the club, to calm the nerves. Once I settled into the set and started to relax, the alcohol kicked in hard. The set went really well though and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I got another chance to play for them so I must have done something right.
Logic is celebrating it’s 8th birthday, do you have any funny memories you would like to share of the past events?
I have so many great memories from Logic. I remember taking Twinkle there for her first ever hard dance outing, she of course loved it. Logic remains our favourite promotion. We did have a very funny run-in with security at one event but you will have to ask me for details.
You have created quite a naughty reputation for yourself on HarderFaster, care to explain?
I think the restraining order has been lifted now hasn’t it? I honestly don’t have time and really can’t be bothered to get into any kind of debate or serious discussion on HF so I just try and make people smile with filth, one-liners and smut. I blame Rogerbj.
]So what can we expect to hear from you on the 28th?
I will be playing a progressive, driving, groovy funky techno set for your aural pleasure.
Quick fire questions:
How many records do you own?
I don’t know really, about a thousand or so, not including CDs’.
How old were you when you first started DJing?
32ish
What equipment do you practice on at home?
I’m very well equipped and practice whenever the mood takes me.
lol, I meant DJ equipment
Oh, Technics 1210 mk2s , Pioneer CDJ 1000s mk2s, Yamaha Monitors, Sony AMP & my new ultra fast PC with Cubase etc.
MP3’s, CD’s or vinyl’s
CDs’ & vinyl, I wouldn’t enjoy mixing out on a PC.
Where would you most like to play?
Any of the big festivals (Glade maybe) & Proactive (I love what these guys are doing and think I’d fit in well with their sound).
If you could have any job what would it be?
Gynaecologist would be nice but I think I’d get bored after a while. Seriously though, anything creative, I must remedy this soon
