Out Of Order - Portsmouth (08/04/2005)

Reported by Maria. / Submitted 13-04-05 18:25

The last Out Of Order event I was a part of was going back a few months ago, into last year. I had never been to one before, but I had friends playing, so it was the perfect opportunity to attend. This, my second Out of Order, was going to be the pre-birthday-celebrations for myself, travelling from Wales, to Portsmouth. With an excellent line up, I knew this was going to be a good night! A completely different location from the usual London clubbing, located on Portsmouth Pier, with a new crowd... let the party commence !

I’d not been to Portsmouth before, so I didn’t really know what to expect, although the last of their events I went to in Southampton was a wicked night with a wicked crowd and lineup, so I was sure not to be disappointed of what was to come! The music was varied at this event, something for everyone, in fact, which is what makes a night out most enjoyable, hearing different styles and DJs’ different abilities to mix different music! This event offered hard trance, nu NRG, hard house, and hardStyle — enough pumping bass to keep everyone going for the five hours this event was on its toes for!

We got to the club at around 20:30pm, where there was already a few people waiting at the doors ready to go in, and the event didn't start until 21:00pm. Seeing people there early was looking to be a good thing! The club was situated in a lovely location, on the Pier, overlooking the sea and pretty lights and in lively surroundings. Being a Friday night, and Portsmouth being a a good location for such ripe nightlife, I guess this night was going to be a night of high success! The club itself was pretty wicked and quite spacious. It had very relaxed surroundings, a nice bar, enough staff and a nice view over the Pier. The dance floor was nice and spacious and the DJs set up was situated nicely for all to see and admire!

Anyway, to cut to the chase, the night was now beginning and the club was filling up slowly but surely with people who had travelled a fair few miles, and also people from the Portsmouth area. The night started off with Tony.P B2B DJ-K playing some uplifting hard trance. I’ve not been part of the trance crowd for such a long time, so it was nice to be hearing some wicked tunes that take me back to a few past events!

The last time I seen Tony.P and DJ-K play, was in fact, at the last Out Of Order I travelled to, and they were very good. Tonight, they played some real crowd pleasing tunes, got a lot of people up on the dance floor and shaking some booty, which then pulled up some more of the clubbers to come up and join in. I have been so out of touch with what’s new on vinyl these days, but what I do know, is that Tony.P and DJ-K's set really got me liking hard trance again! It’s not a big favourite genré of mine, but I really enjoyed what my ears were hearing, and so did the crowd! Well done boys, you did us all proud!

Next up was Si Stylus B2B Matty Phact, playing some wicked hard house. I’ve not been to a hard house event in such a long time, so it was nice to be up-to-date with some good sounds that really went down well with the Out Of Order crowd.

With the dance floor filling up and the dancers performing the music just seemed to get a bit ‘dirtier’ as the night flowed into a nice, well up for it vibe, and the harder the music got, the more ‘up for it’ all these clubbers seemed to be! I think everyone enjoyed this set! Top work, fellas!

Next up was Matt Handy B2B Mitt. I've not heard of these guys before and also hadn’t heard any of their mixing abilities... and, suffice to say, they got everyone on the dance floor begging for it! These guys played some really cheeky tunes which was well up to my liking, so I was not disappointed !

Well done guys !

Wid & Ben I hear are getting very well known in the dance scene. Tonight was my first encounter seeing and hearing them play. They seemed to be well top lads, very friendly, and were looking forward to playing tonight! Their style was hard style, and boy were they hard and you could feel the energy in this crowd !

I remember hearing a few classics being played by these top fellas and the dance floor getting fuller. Some filthy tuneage was being sprayed over the crowd when they guys were playing, and I think we were all loving it! Great set guys !

The last hour of the night was fast approaching now, and there was one more set to be played before the curtains were to be pulled down, we go home, the show ending. The last bit of the night was taken over by Eryk Orpheus doing a Live PA. A lot of people down this way of the world had not heard of Eryk and not many were particularly into the freeform/ nu NRG sound. Being a fan of both styles, and having seen Eryk play a few times, I reckon a lot of people would love the sound tonight. The bass was filthy and there was a nice flow of positive energy.

Being a producer, most of the tunes Eryk played were his own productions. A nice filthy track listing, starting off with a bit of a tease with tunes such as ‘Demons’, a wicked track with a nice uphoric lift, to tracks such as ‘Prescious’ which is another fantastic tune which really did lift the crowd. Why wouldn’t it? It’s phat tune and also one of my favourites! Progressing to some faster tunes .. ‘Atom-E’ and ‘I’m The Daddy!’, he finished off with a fantastic remix of ‘Hide You’. Great set!

I really enjoyed the club that Out Of Order was situated in. The location was great and the vibe in this place was comfortable, big, spacious, and just about right for the number of clubbers who partied along side us. The only downside for me, I thought, was the price on Alcohol. £3.60 for a bottle of WKD ! Shocking, but it didn’t stop me getting very, very drunk! So much fun was had at this event, and every DJ lifted the spirits in this club, and this is what makes every event an enjoyable experience. Thanks to *Cheeky_Chick* for the superb pictures, and, until next time, clubbers, Keep it Out Of Order!

Glad you liked your visit to Portsmouth Waves We are a friendly bunch. The Pier is our best venue for "underground" nights and OOO did a great job making it theirs for the night (added bonus is its 5 mins walk from mine Wink ). Great to see such a diverse line up and new acts being brought to Portsmouth. I'd never seen Eryk before and wasn't disappointed. Roll on the 7th May for the dj comp and hopefully another OOO at the Pier soon. Well done boys Mmmwwah!
