Logic: A Christmas Tale @ The Fridge

Reported by Calanth / Submitted 22-12-03 12:17

On the eve of my birthday I scampered out of the cold and into a very festive ‘Fridge’. Karma had decked the place out in dozens of lit-up Santa’s and snow-men, in addition to the usual neon decorations and black-light. Suddenly all that scaffolding that features in the Fridge had a use!

Typical excellent attention to production at Logic

Leave your body-piercings in for this venue- the search is cursory and excitable metal detectors don’t shriek over your favourite jewellery or hair accessories.Blush The fridge is more of a ‘free range’ venue and there are also stalls full of neon accessories which ensure that those who love shiny things have a reason to part with their £’s. I met up with what must be the world’s friendliest security guard! He helped me clamber up onto a piece of scaffolding for a better view and only asked me to hop down when I looked a bit too drowsy to hang on tightly enough. Far from interfering with my fun this bloke was up for a chat and gave useful advice on the best way to get to the middle of the dance floor using a tricky back stair way.

On this particular night the cloakroom had been worked out so as to create one-way traffic- very sensible- but the bathrooms were still a problem. Girls have enough problems with cues guys, without you taking up all the toilets, using up all the loo roll and then liberally hosing down the seats and leaving puddles on the floor! Eurgh!Yuck

Clap yo' hands

The crowd was mainly friendly, 20-something ravers dressed in everything from the comfy jeans right through to amazing Cyberdog ensembles. Again, the ‘fragrant’ individual that made it to Peachy Raver’s Birthday at Camden Palace must have sent a friend along to this party. Thumbs Down Hopefully little stinkers will all be given soap and deodorant for Christmas and instructions on how to use them.

Truthfully I didn’t spend a great deal of time in Santa’s Hardcore Grotto the main room was warmer, and I was really enjoying the projected visuals and lighting. But that was not to say that Kevin Energy, AMS, Sharkey, Mark Ashley, Tom U4RA B2B James F Anday Vinal, Impact, Dan Devotion, MCS Ethos and Odyssey were doing a bad job. The music was fine every time I ducked in.

Kevin Energy

The first part of the night in the Main Room delivered bouncy uplifting trance and hard house to a friendly crowd. Try as I might I couldn’t get a set list from anywhere nor could the door people give me the DJ order. From what I can work out Oberon, Rubec, Tara Reynolds and Superfast OZ entertained us either side of the main set from the DJ booth. Then around 2:30am the NU-Energy Collective played live, consisting of Feat’ Kevin Energy, AMS, Sharkey & K Complex.

Their set began with Jingle Bells and snow! Yes, they made it snow inside and all the happy clubbers tossed balloons and snow at each other! It was fun, and this snow (not the damp cold type) stuck to everything and ended up decorating the bus and my studio later in the night. Jingle bells was rounded off in a flurry of pyrotechnics and a little later on people in the front row got presents as well (albums from the look of them- I was way too short to see properly).

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

The rest of the main set got harder and faster and a crazed entertainer- ‘Proteus’ at a guess, capered ‘round in red trousers and what looked to be silver body-paint. He later gleefully peeled strips of the silver latex off himself, pulled it over his head and even gave bits away. His antics reminded me of Gollum on speed! Devilish

This was a really fun night and the extras like baton-twirlers, dancers and entertainers, together with the balloons, snow and presents really made it feel like Christmas. Everyone I spoke to was enjoying themselves and the celebrations.
Big grin

The crazed entertainer you were talking about was actually The Green Man, a regular part of The Nu Energy performance. Although Proteus was also running around like a nutter during his set aswell I believe!
Well done Logic crew for the best production of a night for ages, your effort really paid off!

Superb night. The Santa and Snowmen were nice touches but made everywhere a bit too bright. Music was excellent, entertainment superb. Need to sort out the toilet situation though.

Awesome night - I loved the snow and decorations, loved Nu Energy (as always) and thought Fridge was a great venue (haven't been before). Enjoyed it more than Heat NYE.

Great night but a mediocre review, most of it being about bouncers, toilets and punters rather than DJ's + music!
