Wildchild Preview II - The Trance Headliners: Lange, Pulser, JFK and Reece Elliot Reported by lady miss k / Submitted 20-10-03 19:53 Lange, Pulser, JFK and Reece Elliot have currently got a thing or two on their minds - and it’s not just producing the next massive trance anthem. On Friday October 24th, they’re all going to be taking the helm in the main room of the Coronet to celebrate Wildchild’s 1st birthday – and the last Wildchild event of the year. Pulser “I’m really excited about playing my debut,” says Pulser, (aka Andy Perring), “especially after missing a previous event due to injury.” The October event may well be Pulser’s first time spinning at the biggest emerging night of the capital, but the Future God (who also plays regularly for the likes of Godskitchen, Slinky, Golden, Escape and Peach) already knows a little bit about what makes Wildchild tick. “I’ve already been to see for myself on a rare night off,” he recalls. “Previous to that, I’d heard only good things…in fact, the first thing I ever heard about Wildchild was Lange telling me how good it was!” Lange, of course, is in a particularly apt position to go around passing judgement on the Big Smoke’s newbie – he’s played at every event since the relaunch last year. “This will be my fifth time on the decks at Wildchild – I will of course attempt to rock it!” he says, grinning. Not that that will be too hard. “The DJs play in the best order musically,” he reckons, “..building the night from trance to hard trance – and then onto hard house. It’s a well-organised event, in a good venue, and it’s always busy!” It’s no doubt going to be its busiest yet this time, though – and with this in mind, Lange is also going to have to be a bit more careful: “Last time I managed to eject the wrong CD player…total silence – oops!” Lange Clumsy he may be; however, Lange is easily forgiven – not least because he’s currently one of the biggest names in trance. Having played everywhere from the USA and Denmark to Australia and Japan, Lange has guested regularly at many of the UK’s best known clubs – and that’s before you even consider all those chart successes. Over 15 of his remixes have gone straight into the top 40 (including DJ Sakin – ‘Protect Your Mind’ which reached the hallowed position of number 4). And the good news is, he’s currently working on more projects than ever before: “Some are hard, some are proggy, some are vocal,” he says, mysteriously. “Tracks to look out for from me in the next few months include: Lange ‘I Believe 2003’ (Positiva – 20 Oct 03), LNG ‘Intercity’ (Tsunami – Nov/Dec 03) and the new Firewall track, which will be out on a State of Trance in Jan 04.” Not bad for a man who has, incredibly, been DJing for just three years tops. Incidentally, he was first brought to the UK’s attention in December 2001 – at none other than Passion: Superclub of the Midlands and home of the legendary JFK. And as most Wildchild aficionados will already know, JFK (aka Jason Kinch) has also played at Wildchild from the start (with the notable exception of the last event: “I was due to start my set at 0330, and my son – Jack Fonzerelli Kinch (little JFK) was being born at 0327!” he says, with a proud grin). He is, by all accounts, certainly looking forward to reclaiming his position behind the Wildchild wheels of steel: “A really big highlight for me was playing at the Coronet for Wildchild back in May - I thought it was an amazing club and can’t wait to get back,” he tells me. And with this in mind, the Wildchild event in February is also set to be an exciting night (not least because it will mark the first one of 2004). In a bid to unite the North and South clubbing divide, Passion will be coming down to co-host the mighty main room (while Storm will be taking over the hard room along with London die-hards Riot!) JFK Which is something that JFK and Wildchild supremo resident Reece Elliot are both looking forward to. Says Reece: “I believe there are four strong elements that are currently making Wildchild succeed in an extremely competitive market. They are, the clubbers we attract, the Wildchild Cadet Workers, the varied music policies on the event, and of course, the willingness of Wildchild to join up with various other club-related partners in a bid to succeed together.” And who are the Wildchild Cadet Workers? “Wildchild believe that in order for a night to be successful, then we need to get vital input from the people who matter: the clubbers themselves,” Reece continues. “By having such a large team of workers, we are continually pointed in the right direction as to the future of the club; and the ideas we take on are largely the ideas of the people who have spent the last few years wishing they could get a voice.” Of course, the Cadet Workers are also to blame for the recent onslaught of the Reece Police, who invade the dancefloor as soon as Reece hits the decks, penalising gurners and ordering lazy clubbers to get up and dance. But Reece agrees that this is all part of the Wildchild Experience. And what an experience it is: “Since November 2002, all the events just seem to have steam-rolled, you’ve got BK’s ever-lasting set at the end of the night which has now bcome a signature to the event. You’ve got the irrepressible Passion King JFK – and the Future Lord of Trance Lange is simply unstoppable at the moment. Then, other features such as the Reece Police, Slinky, Riot! and Scream collaborating with us – as well as websites such as HarderFaster and clubtheworld becoming part of the Wildchild Revolution…right now, it’s all systems go!” Reece Elliot Which leaves me with just one more question to ask. What track do they expect to tear the roof off when they get behind the decks at Wildchild? “Now, I can’t reveal secrets, but I do have a few cheeky bootlegs and also my new productions,” answers JFK, looking secretive. Lange is apparently ‘working on it right now’, while Reece Elliot is plumping for the Fingers Burnt re-make of Frozen February, which he says has been getting the best reactions at all Wildchild events this year. “Personally, I’m gonna take this opportunity to not just play right up-front stuff at the birthday, but also what I think have been the major bullets over the last 12 months or so,” he adds. “For me, the best in my box at the mo’ has to be Yves Deruyter Vs Marcel Woods ‘Frequence’ – I expect that little baby to hinge people from their seats, make them fly and all the rest of it!” Pulser, meanwhile, says he’s got quite a few exclusives up his sleeve – but he’s really banking on Lange’s new Firewall single to blow that roof clean off. “I’ve been DJing a lot this year so haven’t had a lot of time in the studio,” he says (although he doesn’t go anywhere without his ‘Cloudwalking’ track, so you can bet your life you’re going to hear this classic on the night). “I did manage a few remixes (Firewall – ‘Sincere’, Mind One – ‘Star For Me’ and Three Drives – ‘Air Traffic), and also had my biggest selling Pulser track ‘My Religion.’” But that’s not all. “I’m currently back in the studio finalising several new tracks and a live set for 2004,” he says. Despite all this, however, his mum is still quite dubious about her son’s career. “She still tells me to get a proper job,” Pulser laughs. “But secretly, I think my Dad wants to be me!” AV IT!! **Next Wildchild Event** Wildchild's 1st Birthday - Born To Be Wild - Friday 24th October 2003 @ The Coronet - 9pm-8am.
