Behind every great event, is a great story – and the story of 123 is no different!
Once upon a time there was a flat in North London with the door number 123. In this flat resided a group of friends whom the term ‘party animal’ may well have been coined for, as without fail, every weekend people would converge on this flat in N15 for hours of rump-shaking, loud music, debauchery and assorted shenanigans which to this day stick in the mind of those who attended these legendary gatherings.
Over the years the ethos of those involved has continued in many guises, most noticeably the club event which has graced Koko, Hidden and the downright naughty Southside Bar. Residents Gordon Darling and Sean Thomas felt it was time to bring the anarchy again, this time choosing The Raving Buddha in Shepherds Bush to settle into and make our new home.
Matt Smallwood is no longer ‘that London DJ’ that most of us here in the capital have grown to respect, oh no… Matt Smallwood is now that international superstar in the making. With accolades including being mentioned as Carl Cox’s favourite producer, remixing the soundtrack to the new clubbing fillum ‘Ecstacy’, playing alongside Dave Clarke and a number of overseas gigs to his name, us booking Mr Smallwood was a no brainer really and we demand you come along to see just why!
Put simply iDJ editor Dave Jenkins knows too much. He knows too much about music. He knows too much about DJing. Shove him behind the decks and you’ve got yourself a whole soundsystem full of trouble. With roots in bass music and a growing production reputation as one half of D&B duo Jenkinsound, Dave promises nothing but a good old fashioned ruck up that spans from a lady-gazing 100 to a full strength 170BPM. A regular spinner for the Monkey Tree bar, Big Chill Festival and the Pure Filth van at Glastonbury, Creamfields and Glade, the Jenkins flex is far and wide.
Of course, 123 wouldn’t be what it is without Gordon Darling and Sean Thomas kick-starting their little baby with some of the finest tech-house this side of the moon.
