Andy Farley has now been DJing an astonishing 20 years! Hard South is proud to be part of his 20-year anniversary tour. Andy was the star-guest at the first ever Hard South, way back in September 2003. He has been our most regular and popular guest DJ, and was our resident DJ in 2009.
Andy Farley’s career spans almost the entire history of dance music itself, from that prehistoric time Before Hardhouse (BH), to the popular zenith of the genre in 2000-2002, and now ‘back to the underground’.
Andy first starting playing out in 1990, at the Nightingale in Birmingham, inspired by the mixing and underground sounds being pioneered there by Tony de Vit. Andy went on to be resident at Sundissential. But his domination of the hardhouse scene began with his residency at Frantic at the Fridge in Brixton. This was back in the day, when Frantic was the biggest, ultimate hardhouse club night in the country. Andy’s end-of-night sets were legendary: ‘Farleytime’ at Frantic meant ‘go hard and go home’ (so to speak ;o).
Since then, Andy Farley has remained at the top of the tree. He has achieved a unique position in being not only ‘the DJs’ favourite DJ’, the most consistently popular DJ among the hardhouse purists, and at the same time appealing to the wider hard-dancing public alongside the more commercial big names.
Still passionate about his music, Andy Farley continues to produce and play the very latest sounds. If you want to know where the scene is going, you listen to what Andy Farley is doing – from his Nucleuz-era classic hardhouse; his hard-trance-tinged crossovers; his techno phase; his catchy groovy funk (his ‘Barriers’ was the hard dance smash of 2006); his frequent nods to his house, European underground and rave antecedence; to his current top-of-the range collaborations with studio demi-god Dom Sweeten.
Whatever his current musical style, however, two things remain constant. First, Andy Farley is always at the cutting edge of the scene, playing the newest tracks and pushing the scene forward. Second, is his trademark high-tempo danceability. He’s been called ‘The King’, the ‘Godfather of Hard House’, but perhaps the best epithet is ‘Lord of the Dance’. If there is one thing that makes a proper, quality hardhouse DJ it is that knack of getting you to move your body. And there is no-one better than Andy Farley when it comes to making you want to dance like a nutcase.
Andy celebrates his 20 years behind the decks with an EXCLUSIVE 3-HOUR SET at Hard South!
Also on the bill are our resident party animals, KRUNCHIE and DJ DRUMMER, joined by hard-trance master LEE WALLS.
And in the RECOVERWORLD room, 'breathless' CHRIS HAMPSHIRE, COXY and guests will be providing the trance for those under-150-bpm moments.
As ever, Shelly will be running her shiny stall, and Miss Pussy von Teese will be dancing for your delight.
Hard South is at the Honeyclub, Kings Road Arches, Brighton.
We are open 11pm - 5am.
Entry is £8/£10, and tickets are available from Cyberdog, Sydney Street.
